A 25-year-old Oxford man died of a heroin overdose shortly after being released from prison, an inquest heard.
Craig Peck was found dead by his mother, Christine Peck, at her home in Butterworth Place, Blackbird Leys, on July 11, 1999.
Mrs Peck said her son had been bailed to stay with her after he was released from prison.
She told the court she knew he had used heroin in the past, but said he seemed to have changed after being in prison and was trying to give up. When Mrs Peck went upstairs to bed on July 11, 1999, she was unable to wake her son.
Consultant pathologist Dr Winifred Gray, from the John Radcliffe Hospital, said the heroin concentration in Mr Peck's blood was above a fatal level.
The court heard Stephen Pelczynski found a blue denim jacket with three syringes in the pocket which belonged Mr Peck -- his half-brother -- the day after he died. Coroner Nicholas Gardiner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
