A former teacher at an Oxford girls school has died, just two months before her 102nd birthday.
Beryl Beaver, who was head of science at Milham Ford Girls' School, died on Thursday after a short illness.
She was a chemistry graduate of St Hugh's College, Oxford, and taught at Milham Ford until her retirement.
Miss Beaver was a resident at the St Luke's home in Latimer Road, Oxford. The matron, Liz Charman, said: "She was a delightful person to look after.
"She was very astute and had a marvellous sense of humour.
"She was sharp, witty and was popular with staff. She was a charming and sociable lady."
She added: "She has left a big gap here." The headteacher of Milham Ford School, Anne Peterson, said: "She was a wonderful teacher and will be sadly missed by many former pupils."
Her funeral will take place on Thursday at St Michael and All Angels Church, Summertown, followed by cremation at Oxford Crematorium.
