Shoppers at an Oxford supermarket are being invited to have a free screening test to discover whether they have diabetes.
Store managers at Tesco, at the Oxford Retail Park in Cowley, are inviting customers to visit the in-store pharmacy during June to complete a risk questionnaire.
If people are thought to be at risk from developing diabetes they will be able to book an appointment with a qualified dietician and specialist nurse for a free consultation.
The supermarket is running its awareness campaign in partnership with the charity Diabetes UK to coincide with national Diabetes Week, which was launched yesterday.
About 1.4m people in the UK have diabetes, which leaves people unable to break down sugar in their bodies.
As well as organising free screening checks, the Tesco supermarket chain has also produced a free booklet for shoppers which includes information about symptoms of the disease, testing, and special dietary requirements for diabetics.
