A huge crowd attended the Morrells Oxford & District Darts Association's 76th winter finals at Rover Social Club, and they were not disappointed by the quality of the darts played.

The men's singles title for the Tom Drennan Memorial Cup went to Kit Young (Quarry Gate), who defeated defending champion Dave Exell (Shears) in two high-scoring legs.

Young's superior finishing earned him the title after heavy scoring from both players.

There is a new name on the Lillian Cox Cup as Sue Smith (Shelley Arms A) defeated Helen Prescott (Nuffield Arms) to win her first women's singles title 2-0.

The men's pairs trophy went to the Shelley Arms duo of Danny Lane and Simon Powell with victory over Steve Gaisford and John Jukes from the Jack Russell.

The Shears pairing of Claire Bywaters and Shelly Lawrence beat Ann Lucin and Lorraine Reveley (East Oxford Conservative Club) 2-0 to lift the ladies pairs.

The men's four-a-side for the Stadium Cup, now in its 53rd year, was won by the Jack Russell, who defeated Hollybush Inn, Witney, and in the Tess Walker Cup (three-a-side) Shears defeated Shelley Arms.

The Shelley made it their best-ever finals night when Sue Smith and Simon Powell defeated the formidable pairing of Bywaters and Steve Babu (Cowley Community Centre) in the Peter Bampton mixed pairs.

The men's Morrells Cup (seven-a-side) proved the most exciting game of the night. Cowley Community Centre C and Crispin were locked together at 3-3, and in a tense last game, Terry Sapey clinched a narrow 4-3 triumph for the Community Centre .

The ladies' Morrells Cup (seven-a-side) brought together Shears and General Elliott, the Shears winning 4-2 with wins from Angie Godfrey, Ruth Smith, Sue Banner and Shirley Lawrence. Jeanette Spencer and Debbie Campbell were Elliott's winners.

In the battle of the sexes, the men's singles winner beat the ladies champion 2-0.
