Plans to turn Banbury's Market Place into a civic square went on public display last week.
Hundreds of shoppers in the town's Castle Quay Centre studied plans to convert the Market Place into an illuminated meeting place and entertainment centre.
The proposals include replacing a short-stay car park with coloured paving, seating, and lighting.
The main feature of the scheme is a 'river' of blue paving running down Parson's Street and across the Market Place on the line of a former stream.
The scheme, if it gets the go-ahead, will cost about £1.5m.
