Rampant Oxford stretched their lead at the top of Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West to a massive 55 points after Saturday's demolition of Amersham.

And once again, it was veteran off-spinner Rupert Evans, the former Oxfordshire captain, who did the damage.

Evans produced a masterly spell of 5-15 off 17 overs to send the home side crashing to 105 all out, which made victory a formality.

This was Oxford's seventh win in nine matches and they look certainties to take the title and win promotion to the top flight.

Indeed, on their current form, they would probably be contesting the Division 1 crown, such is their strength in depth.

After their openers had put on 44, Amersham were always struggling against Oxford's varied attack, Graham Charlesworth and Ian Evans both putting in tidy spells at the start.

Ben Thompson and Adam Cook chipped in with a couple of middle-order wickets, while Rupert Evans worked his way through the rest of the batting.

Amersham spent 57.4 overs grinding out their meagre total, but Oxford's openers Keith Mustow and Pat Jobson showed that batting was not such a problem.

They knocked off the runs in exactly 19 overs, both making half centuries.
