A 99-year-old woman was conned out of hundreds of pounds by two men posing as electricity board workers.

Police believe the same men may have stolen at least £1,000 from elderly victims in Oxford.

At about 2.40pm on July 2, two men showed the woman, of Jericho Street, Jericho, what she believed to be identification cards, and, while one distracted her, the other went upstairs and rifled through her possessions.

They stole £600.

Both are described as white, with Irish accents. One was bald, and the other was wearing a cap.

Police are linking the theft with two other incidents the same day.

Two men called at the flat of an 84-year-old woman in Hawksmoor Road, Cutteslowe, at about 12.55pm. They produced a card, which they said identified them, and the woman let them in.

They stole £400.

Earlier, two men called at the flat of an elderly woman in Church Way, Iffley, at about 1.40pm, claiming to be investigating an electrical fault in the area, but the woman refused to let them in.

They are described as white, with Irish accents and in their 20s. Both were wearing jeans and zip-up coats.
