Young Oxford Cheetahs speedway star Lukas Dryml produced the performance of his fledgling career to finish runner-up to Tony Rickardsson in the Swedish Grand Prix at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm on Saturday.

Lukas DrymlThe 21-year-old from the Czech Republic saw off a host of world-class riders in only his fifth GP.

His tally of 20 points saw him rocket up to 12th place from 16th in the overall standings and just two places out of the top ten who automatically qualify next year.

The 21-year-old said: "That was easily my best performance. I am so pleased. I would like to thank my team.

"Now we head for the Czech Republic. Prague is not my home track, but it will be great to start the meeting in the main event, as my brother Ales will be one of the wild cards and we didn't want to meet in the first stages.

"I would like to pay tribute to my father, who has helped me so much so this year."

Cheetahs' teammates Leigh Adams reached another semi-final but slipped a place overall from fourth to fifth.

Oxford asset Todd Wilshire had a day to forget. He was beaten for second place by Dryml in his opener and then excluded for touching the tapes in his second ride.
