Histon 0, Banbury Utd 3: Banbury moved to within two points of the leaders Bashley after an impressive win at high-flying Histon in the Dr Martens Eastern Division on Saturday.

Giving the home side no time on the ball, Banbury impressed from the start and never looked back.

The visitors almost broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. From Jimmy Simpson's corner, Jason Allen rose above everyone to head towards the bottom corner, only for home keeper Paul Barber to make a wonderful fingertip save.

Barber again came to Histon's rescue in the 22nd minute when he did well to save a deflected 15-yard shot from Redknap.

After Histon had got back into the game for a ten-minute spell, United made the breakthrough on 41 minutes.

Simon Tricker sent a free kick out to Liam O'Neill, who chipped a cross for the unmarked Norman Sylla to nod home his 14th goal of the season from close range.

Banbury spurned a golden chance to increase their lead in the 57th minute when Sylla's effort was stopped on the line by Barber, before a being hacked clear.

United went further ahead in the 75th minute when they won a corner and Simpson's flag-kick was headed powerfully home by Wayne Blossom, for his first goal for the club.

Barber showed the first signs of pressure in the 80th minute when he and James Saddington both went for the same ball, and the latter was lucky not to score an own goal when his deflected header hit a post.

Banbury ended the scoring in the 87th minute following some great play from Redknap.

He held the ball up beautifully before slipping it sideways to Simpson, who was tripped from behind as he rushed into the area. Barber touched Ady Fuller's spot-kick, but he could do nothing to prevent Banbury completing a brilliant afternoon. Banbury: Tricker, Fuller, Blossom, Sullivan (Travers 88), Allen, Simpson, Corbett, Stanbridge, Sylla, Redknap, O'Neill (McKay 85). Sub not used: Essex.
