HERTFORD TN 1, THAME UNITED 3: Thame United's poor run of four defeats in their last five games came to an end in style at the expense of form side Hertford in Saturday's Ryman League Division 1 North encounter.

Mark JonesFired-up visitors Thame took the lead in only the fifth minute, with a flowing move down the right flank which ended with Jermaine Ferreira crossing for Enzo Silvestri to fire home from the edge of the box.

United continued to dominate their opponents on a difficult surface. Danny Keen and Alex Stewart both went close to extending the lead as they caused all sorts of problems to the Hertford defence.

A well-worked corner in the 26th minute saw Mark Jones provide Andy Williams with a great chance, but his header was inches wide, with keeper Chris Fitkin stranded.

A minute later, United went two ahead and again it was from a corner. Fitkin could only watch as Jones's well-flighted kick sailed past him into the unguarded net.

A Hertford attack in the 33rd minute saw Andy Williams alert as he cleared the danger with a smart defensive header.

Thame were forced to make a change just before the break when Silvestri limped out of the action with a foot injury.

The second period continued in the same vein with Thame well on top.

They went further ahead in the 58th minute when Alex Stewart's well-struck effort was parried by Fitkin and Mark West was on hand to ram home the rebound.

Three minutes later, Hertford gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Leo Turner netted, after Alan Foster was unable to hold Owen Beale's shot from outside the area.

Thame were unlucky not to grab a fourth, when a brilliant run by West ended with his effort agonisingly hitting a post with Fitkin well-beaten.

Thame Utd: Foster, Keen (Gardner 73), Joyce, Saulsbury, Williams, Ferreira (Bartley 60), Thornton, Silvestri (Abassi 44), Stewart, West, Thornton.
