Plans to improve a path from Benson and Wallingford for cyclists and pedestrians have been welcomed.

More than 70 people attended an exhibition at Benson Parish Hall on Friday, October 11, organised by Oxfordshire County Council.

They studied three possible designs, costing up to £275,000.

A pedestrian crossing of the A4074 would be added at the Benson Lane exit from Crowmarsh Gifford, the southern access road to Preston Crowmarsh, or a few hundred metres south of Church Lane, Benson.

Senior transport planner Craig Rossington said an initial assessment of the questionnaires showed that people were very positive about the plans.

Push-button traffic lights would be used if the site near Church Lane is preferred.

In addition, the footpath from St Helen's Avenue, Benson, to the A4074 would be resurfaced and the existing cycle path along the A4074 would be widened and improved.

It is part of the council's policy to link villages to nearby towns and make cycling more convenient.

Mr Rossington said the plans would shortly be submitted for consideration by the council's executive board.

"I can't say for certain whether they will be implemented, but we are very hopeful," he said.
