Former drug addict Lee Hutton admitted charges of shoplifting and failing to surrender to custody when he appeared in court.
Didcot magistrates heard that Hutton was seen on CCTV acting suspiciously as he walked out of Eileens clothes shop, in Abingdon, at 11 am on September 23.
Clare Barclay, prosecuting, said: "The CCTV showed Hutton drop clothing in a nearby alleyway."
Hutton, 26, of The Vines, Abingdon, admitted stealing a £125 Umlauf & Klein coat.
He said: "I was getting off heroin at the time. I have now kept myself clean and am holding down a steady job two days a week."
Hutton, who was on licence from prison, was released on bail pending sentence.
