A father and son have been sentenced after a violent incident at a pub in Southmoor, near Abingdon.

Robert MacGregor, 44, was jailed for eight months at Oxford Crown Court yesterday (October 15) and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation and £500 legal costs after a jury convicted him of grevious bodily harm, affray and common assault in an incident at the Waggon and Horses pub in January this year.

Halfway through the trial, his son Jamie MacGregor, 20, had changed his plea and admitted affray.

He was sentenced to a 50-hour community rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £400 legal costs.

The pair had been drinking at the pub on January 18 and complained their drinks were flat and asked for them to be changed. A second lot were also flat.

When the third round of drinks was served, Jamie MacGregor, of Campion Road made a comment to bar staff which led to him being asked to leave.

The court was told he tipped his drink over the counter and later swept a large number of glasses off the bar, smashing them.

Robert MacGregor, of Blandy Avenue, Southmoor, was acquitted of an assault on Liam Cummings, but convicted of inflicting grevious bodily harm on Andrew Shaw and common assault on Jonathan Lundregan.

MacGregor was ordered to pay Andrew Shaw £1,000 compensation and will serve two concurrent eight-month prison sentences for affray and grievous bodily harm.

He was given a further 14-day sentence for common assault, which will also run concurrently.
