That, and a renewed interest in cycling, persuaded her to join 2,000 riders taking part in the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust 10th anniversary cycle ride in Oxfordshire earlier this year.
But like many of those on the charity ride, Ms Hollingworth discovered the hard work was getting round to all her friends and colleagues to collect the sponsorship.
Ms Hollingworth, 30, of Wilding Road, Wallingford, who is a telephonist with the Stagecoach bus company in Oxford, was able to hand over £800 to Paul Montgomery, of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust.
She said: "My partner, Dan Claydon, who I did not know at the time, had his transplant 12 years ago and it has worked out well. You never know who is likely to need a transplant next."
Ms Hollingworth, who is a swimming instructor in her spare time, opted do a 50-mile route between Oxford and Bicester during the charity event.
"Next year I hope to do a 75-mile ride for the charity," she said.
