Cherry Red Records Hellenic League preview

Witney United have snapped up the services of former Witney Town goal ace Carl Henry, and Wycombe Wanderers striker Leeyon Phelan.

Henry, who scored 25 goals in just 20 games for Witney Town three seasons ago, joins the club from Quarry Nomads, although he is currently serving a suspension.

United's other major signing, Phelan, goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's Supplementary Cup tie at home to Gloucester United.

He is a highly-rated striker, who made his Wycombe first-team debut against Stoke City last season, and was a target of Crystal Palace while he was at Adams Park.

Mark Sherlock will make his seasonal debut following an Achilles injury, as Old Woodstock host Ross Town.

Kidlington are without Tom Green, James Philpott and Owen Bunce for their tie with Premier outfit Almonsbury Town.

New signings Jason Bedford and Stephen Ayris are both cup-tied for Bicester Town's home game with Didcot Town

Meanwhile, North Leigh are fuming after Saturday's scheduled Cherry Red Records League Cup tie (October 26) with Hook Norton was postponed, leaving them without a game.

The teams were due to meet at Banbury United's ground, but with the Dr Martens Eastern Division club also being at home, the league cup clash has been put on hold.

Ironically, North Leigh's reserves are playing at Hook Norton's ground against Banbury United Reserves.

North Leigh's Barry Norton was angry that the reserve match took precedence over the first team game.

"We offered to switch the tie to Hook Norton's own ground, but this was refused.

"Come the end of the season, we will, no doubt, be playing two or three games a week again, so we are very unhappy about the situation."

Meanwhile, Nick Neal is cup-tied for Brackley Town's trip to Highworth.

Darren Beckett returns for Abingdon United, who take on Division 1 East high-fliers Finchampstead. He missed the midweek game through university commitments.

Ryan Curtin has recovered from flu, while Pete Moss has a late fitness test on a groin injury.

Ruled out are Jimmy Smith (shoulder), Nathan Woodley (torn hamstring) and Wayne Harbert (dislocated shoulder).
