Support services group Amey, which has its headquarters in Oxfordshire, has appointed an acting finance director in a bid to calm shareholders' nerves.
Eric Tracey, a partner from global accountancy firm Deloitte & Touche, has stepped into the post vacated by Michael Kayser.
Mr Kayser spent just five weeks in the job and his decision sent shares plummeting by 58 per cent.
Shareholders at the firm, based in Sutton Courtenay, near Abingdon, are due to hold crisis meetings.
In a statement, Amey said Mr Tracey will not become a director but will attend board and executive meetings.
