Police believe Nathan, pictured, from MacKenzie Avenue, Milton Heights, near Abingdon, was swept to his death after falling into the swollen river near the weir at Sutton Pools on November 9.

The search for his body was due to resume on November 12.

Nathan was in Year Eight at Larkmead School in Faringdon Road, Abingdon.

His headteacher Richard Bysouth described him as a popular pupil, who was friendly and had a "great sense of humour".

Mr Bysouth said: "The news has shocked the whole school. Nathan will be very much missed."

He said Nathan was popular with his classmates and had much potential.

The school will be providing additional support for students most closely affected, he said.

Prayers were said for Nathan at his former school, Milton CE Primary School on November 11.

Nathan's sister Jade, nine, and brothers Aiden, eight, and five-year-old Charlie are pupils at Milton Primary School. Headteacher Linda Shatford said: "We remember Nathan as a lively lad with a sense of humour.

"It's such a sad loss and our thoughts are with Nathan's family."
