A NURSE who has been qualified for 21 years is giving up her job to help treat sick people in Africa.
Jayne Wright, who is heading for Africa
Jayne Wright, pictured, a development worker for the Royal College of Nursing, is travelling to Ghana as a volunteer with i-two-i, a charity which offers help in 14 countries worldwide.
Miss Wright, 40, of Netherwoods Road, Risinghurst, Oxford, will be helping at a hospital for malnutritioned children, and going to villages to follow up their care, as well as working in an outpatient clinic for people with Aids.
She said: "I thought I'd go and live in another culture, and see if I had anything to offer.
"People keep saying I'm going through a mid-life crisis, but I'm not! I'm really excited, but terrified about the experience."
Before travelling to Ghana, in January next year, Miss Wright must raise £2,000, which will cover her travel, accommodation and living expenses.
She said: "I've raised about £1,000 already. I've done a car boot sale, and a sponsored silence and worked extra nursing shifts. But I do need more."
