Members of the public will choose a new name for the area of Park End Street in front of Oxford's Said Business School.
Last month, the city council's central, south and west area committee asked people to suggest names for the stretch of road bordered by the business school, the Royal Oxford Hotel and the shops beside the former Cooper's jam factory.
It is often incorrectly referred to as Station Square, which is the area in front of the railway station. The council believes a new name will avoid confusion.
More than 50 suggestions were received and councillors drew up a shortlist.
Bob Price, the chairman of the committee, said: "We had an excellent response from the public, with an imaginative range of suggestions.
"Councillors have selected four names, all strongly linked to Oxford and the history of the area."
The shortlisted names are:
Park End Square
Frank Cooper Square
Frideswide Square
Rewley Square
Voting is open until Friday November 22. The name which tops the poll will win.
