A police officer received minor injuries while helping to quell trouble outside Wallingford's football ground.

Police blamed some Oxford United fans, who attended the game after their own club's game against Kidderminster was cancelled on Saturday, for causing trouble.

A police spokesman said: "It seems to have been mainly Oxford United supporters causing the problems."

No arrests were made but it took Wallingford police officers, supported by ten back-up officers from across the region, an hour to restore order.

Wallingford AFC chairman Lindsay Townsend said: "It was down to few mindless idiots."
