A heroin addict who stole a car and headbutted a police constable has been jailed for eight months.
Paul Merrills, 35, admitted at Oxford Crown Court to stealing a Ford Escort XR3 from North Bar Street on August 2.
He also admitted stealing two number plates from another car and making off from an Esso service station in Oxford Road, Banbury, with £10.20 worth of petrol.
He also admitted assaulting a police officer and possessing cannabis on June 28, causing damage to a Nissan car and two counts of theft.
The court heard Merrills used a key to scrape the side of the Nissan parked outside Banbury police station, saying "That is what I think of the police".
Merrils, a hod-carrier, has a string of previous convictions for burglary, shoplifting and assault.
Merrills, of Jubilee Court, Banbury, was given a four-month prison sentence for the assault, two months for car theft, one month for stealing registration plates, one month for stealing five CDs from HMV in Banbury and one month for damaging the Nissan car.
He was given no extra penalty for possession of cannabis.
