Police arrested three people following an outbreak of violence at AFC Wallingford's high-profile clash with AFC Wimbledon.

Luke David Meadowcroft, 26, of Ridgeway, Oxshott in Surrey, was charged with public order offences and possession of cannabis. He will appear at Didcot Magistrates Court on Thursday (November 28).

A 28-year-old man from Burghfield Common, Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of affray and released on police bail.

A 21-year-old from Oxford was also arrested on suspicion of theft and public order offences. He was later released without charge.

The police are continuing to investigate complaints of assault after being called out to reports of fighting at Hithercroft Road on Saturday.

Specialist police units -- including the mounted section, dog units and air support -- were drafted in. The situation was not fully resolved until 5.30pm.

One police officer suffered a slash wound to his upper right arm during the disturbance.

Insp David Whitaker, of Abingdon Police, said: "Oxford United fans from the Wallingford area, and 12 supporters from Reading attended this match after the Oxford United versus Kidderminster match was postponed. It is believed that this is where the problems arose.

"There is no history of trouble between the Wimbledon and Wallingford fans.

He said: "The police have a very good relationship with AFC Wallingford and this incident occurred due to an unfortunate set of circum- stances."
