Families on a housing estate are being woken up at night by the beeping noise from alarms on lorries reversing because drivers have taken a wrong turn.

Drivers are mistakenly turning into Gavray Drive at Langford Village, Bicester, thinking they are on the road to warehouses on the nearby Bicester Distribution Park.

When drivers realise they have made an error, they turn round by backing into residential roads like Whimbrel Close and Mallards Way.

The residents say the beeping reversing alarms keep waking them up in the middle of the night.

Christopher Riley, of Whimbrel Close, said: "We continually have large articulated lorries turning into Gavray Drive by mistake.

"They're really heading for the Bicester Distribution Park and the Launton Road industrial estates."

A further problem is that a sign for Gavray Drive indicating it is a cul-de-sac has been damaged.

Ian Lawrence, chairman of Langford Village Community Association, said: "As well as drivers taking the wrong turning, some are parking in Gavray Drive and sleeping in their cabs overnight ahead of deliveries or pick-ups at the distribution park the next day."

Colin Carritt, Oxfordshire County Council's area highways surveyor for Bicester, said: "We will look at the road signs to see if we can improve the directions to the distribution park further along the ring road. We need to ensure drivers carry on until the next turning into the distribution park."
