A retired electrician who worked on power stations in Africa died as a result of a disease caused by exposure to asbestos, an inquest in Oxford heard.
Peter Drewett, 79, of Quarry Road, Witney, died in hospital on May 1 after he was diagnosed last year as suffering from mesothelioma -- a condition caused by exposure to asbestos.
The inquest heard that Mr Drewett had worked at a number of power stations in Africa.
After leaving Africa in 1976, he worked for nine years at Oxford University in laboratories where he was also potentially exposed to asbestos fibres.
Dr Derek Roskell, a consultant pathologist, said a post mortem confirmed Mr Drewett had suffered from mesothelioma and that his cause of death was bronco-pneumonia, a common terminal illness for people diagnosed with the condition.
Coroner Nicholas Gardiner ruled that Mr Drewett had died as a result of industrial disease.
