Head nurses proudly parading crisp new uniforms have been introduced at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust to provide leadership for staff and improve patient care.

Each of the 26 is in charge of a cluster of six or seven wards at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill and Radcliffe Infirmary, and The Horton, Banbury.

They will all wear navy blue dresses or tunics with red beading -- part of a new uniform scheme across the ORH to help patients identify staff.

Jill Calvert, head nurse for the surgical wards and responsible for 160 beds across the four hospital sites, said: "As well as supporting all the nurses, I can ensure standards of care across my wards are maintained, and look after the interests of my patients."
