A teenager is critically ill in hospital after the car she was travelling in was involved in a collision with a suspected stolen van.

The 19-year-old was a passenger in a Volvo car which was in collision with a Ford Transit van on the A420, near Appleton, shortly before 6am on Sunday.

She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where her condition was today (April 15) described as critical but stable.

Another 18-year-old female passenger in the Volvo was released from hospital on Sunday.

Police closed the road for almost nine hours after the accident.

Two men were later arrested and were being questioned last night in connection with a number of offences, including the theft of a Transit van.
