A Wantage man was arrested after a schoolgirl sent a text message to a friend claiming he had sexually assaulted her, a court heard.
Former pub landlord Vincent Morris, 41, of Mably Way, Grove, denies indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14 between July 1998 and July 2000. The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told Oxford Crown Court she sent a text message to a friend about the alleged incident several years after it happened.
She said she also confided to her two best friends.
Morris was interviewed by police and arrested on September 9 last year. Morris, who worked at the Queen's Arms, Park End Street, Oxford, and the Prince of Wales in Didcot, denied the girl's account.
He said he had given the girl a kiss and a hug but had not touched her indecently.
The trial continues.
