Former Oxfordshire and Cambridge University batsman Boris Wilenkin has died at the age of 69.

Mr Wilenkin, who lived at Standlake, was secretary of Oxford Downs Cricket Club.

He played 29 times for Oxfordshire in the Minor Counties Championship between 1951 and 1956, scoring 1,429 runs at an average of 29.77 and made two centuries.

Mr Wilenkin also won a Cambridge Blue in 1956, featuring in the same side as Ted Dexter.

He played 16 first-class matches for Cambridge University and the Free Foresters between 1955 and 1959, scoring 661 runs at an average of 24.48, including one century.

Joe Banton, Oxfordshire's greatest ever all-rounder and a contemporary of Mr Wilenkin in the county side, said: "Boris was a very fine man to have with you on the field and off it.

"He would never let anything get to him on the pitch. He was a relaxed and cheerful character and a brilliant tourist.

"Boris was a very good attacking batsman and was good enough to win a Blue when winning a Blue meant something."
