Vacuum cleaner and washing machine manufacturer Dyson is moving its storage depot from Milton Park, near Abingdon, to a new site in Gloucestershire.

From June, the Wiltshire-based company, which switched much of its production from Malmesbury, Wiltshire, to Malaysia last year, will stop using the Danzas storage depot.

It will transfer its business to CM Downton, at Moreton Valence, near Gloucester, which already runs Dyson's distribution operation.

A Dyson spokesman said: "We have completed a review of our storage facilities and have taken the decision to end our contract with Danzas.

"Our warehouse and storage operation will be taken over by CM Downton. This will enable us to have our warehouse and distribution operation in a single location."

Dudley Hutchings, the managing director of Danzas at Milton Park, said: "We have a policy of not commenting on our customers. Customers come and customers go."

When Dyson moved vacuum cleaner production to the Far East last September, nearly 600 jobs were lost in Malmesbury.

Another 1,200 people still work there making washing machines and in research and development. James Dyson is one one of the richest men in Britain.

In the Sunday Times Rich List for 2003 Mr Dyson comes in at number 88 and is said to be worth £360m.
