Shoppers are calling for improvements to a rundown shopping centre regularly targeted by vandals and antisocial youths.

Millbrook Shopping Centre in Grove is in need of repairs to uneven footpaths, potholes and broken bollards, according to the Joint Environmental Trust for Grove.

It said disabled car park markings had faded, flowerbeds had become litter-tips and antisocial behaviour was adding to the misery for business owners and shoppers.

Trust member and ward councillor Zoe Patrick said co-ordinating repairs at the precinct was proving difficult.

Mrs Patrick said she had received complaints from shoppers, including one woman who tripped on broken paving and injured her knee.

The group agreed to ask district council solicitors to investigate what could be done to enforce improve- ments.

Bluehouse Properties, which owns the car park and front precinct, said it had contributed to the recent repairs to the car park.

Aron Freedman, of London-based Bluehouse Properties, said he was not aware of problems with car parking.

He said: "Nobody has written to us telling us if there's anything wrong.

"I don't see the property. If somebody would like to write me a list, then I will look at it."

Pc Kim Claxton, Grove Community Officer, said a planned youth shelter due to arrive next week would help tackle the problem of underage drinking and antisocial behaviour.

He said: "The whole area needs bringing up to scratch.

"One of the initiatives that we are looking at is to take them away from the shops and give them a place to identify as their own."
