Oxford Utd Res 3, Luton Tn Res 1: Steve Basham scored a spectacular volley as Oxford United Reserves eased to victory against Luton's second string at Court Place Farm on Wednesday.

Basham came through 90 minutes for the first time in six weeks, setting up the first two goals before marking his return to fitness with a scintillating goal 20 minutes from time to seal United's Avon Insurance Combination win.

A strong Oxford side were in control from the start, with Jefferson Louis striking the foot of a post inside the opening ten minutes.

Dean Whitehead, again outstanding before being withdrawn at half-time, netted the opener after 15 minutes when he slotted home a Basham lay-off.

Despite seeing their lead wiped out inside a minute by Stephen O'Leary, United went back in front in the 27th minute when good work by Paul Powell and Basham allowed Louis to poke home.
