About 30 children aged from 14 to 16 at Wheatley Park School, in Holton, are building the pond in collaboration with the Shotover Wildlife ecology group.
The work on the pond was done as part of the Community Service component of the students' Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Teacher Ingrid Weaver applied for a £5,000 grant from Barclays Bank's community scheme.
The cheque was handed over by Marianne Glithero, the assistant manager of Barclays' Headington and Wheatley branches.
The pond is expected to encourage wildlife such as lizards, amphibians and the rare mason bee, one of only two types of British bees that builds its nest in snail shells.
