Oxfordshire's Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons has been voted 29th best restaurant in the world by Restaurant Magazine.
In a global survey of 300 leading chefs and restaurant critics, the Great Milton eatery was voted fourth best in this country, one of 10 British restaurants to make the top 50.
Gordon Ramsay's London restaurant was voted Britain's best and ranked fifth in the world, The Merchant House, in Ludlow, came second in the country, and London's Nobu was rated third.
Le Manoir Hotel and Restaurant, which has two Michelin stars and holds five AA rosettes, caters for 78,000 guests a year.
Head chef and proprietor Raymond Blanc said the award was a recognition of the restaurant's classical values.
He said: "Our restaurant has been at the forefront of this industry in Britain and the world for the past 18 years, thanks to our ability to adapt to changes in foods and our continued training of young people.
"The Champagne will certainly be flowing tonight."
