A Russian airship will join dozens of hot-air balloons for the first time at this year's Oxford City Council Balloon Fiesta.

Organisers confirmed the spectacular Russian "Baltika" hot-air ship will be part of the event in Cutteslowe Park on the weekend of May 10 and 11.

The Balloon Fiesta is part of Oxford City Council's Fun in the Parks programme, sponsored by the Oxford Mail and supported by Fox FM.

Baltika is a British-designed, two-seater thermal airship based in St Petersburg. It will be its first outing in Britain since the original test flight.

This is the council's 6th Balloon Fiesta and it is expected that hundreds of breathtaking and colourful sights will fill Cutteslowe Park when hot air balloons launch from the park at 6am and 6pm on both days.

Oxford City Council's executive member for leisure, Peter Johnson, said: "Our Balloon Fiesta is always an amazing experience and one of our most popular Fun in the Parks events.

"The Nightglow Spectacular on Saturday night is not to be missed with balloons accompanied by music, with a firework finale."

The theme this year is the four elements, with an exciting musical score, fireworks, laser and special effects. The show has been designed by Neil Pickett.
