The Dream Team lived up to their name as they retained the 2.0-litre Banger Team Championship title at Standlake Arena.

After three hard-fought heats, on Sunday, the Oxford-based team held a two-point lead over the Outcasts, with just the double points final remaining.

Team tactics were spot-on for the final, as Mark Mitchell and Shaun Russell took first and third places.

Meanwhile, the other team members, Darren Goves and John Healey took care of the opposition by acting as effective stoppers.

There was a great atmosphere at the track as 173 racers provided the thrills and spills for the bumper crowd.

North Leigh junior racer Michael Hayes had a superb day.

Now in his fifth year and with 110 meetings under his belt, Hayes is one of the track's best youngsters and has to start his races from the red grade at the back of the grid.

But he came through to win both his heats and the final, and now joins the handful of top juniors who have achieved the treble at a race meeting.

He now holds a 38-point lead in the 2003 Championship.

Bampton racer Ricky Hancock was once again unbeatable, winning both his heats and the final in the 1450 Prod Rod class.

After a poor start to his season, Oxford's Stuart Talbot finally got it together to win the closely-fought saloon rod final from the in-form Andy Walker.

The next action at the arena will be the Bank Holiday Monday meet and will feature Metro and Fiesta Baby Bangers, as well as the popular ramp rollover competition during the interval.
