Cholsey were brought crashing down to earth after Thame won their OLTA Inter-Club League Men's 3-Pair Division 1 clash 8-1.

After getting their campaign off to a flying start with a 7-2 victory over Oxford City B, Cholsey were looking to record back-to-back wins, and faced a side who finished only one point ahead of them last season.

But the writing was on the wall after the first round, when Cholsey trailed 2.5-.5, with Phil Warr and Jon Merrifield picking up their solitary set.

Things got no better after the second round, when Warr and Merrifield were again the only Cholsey pair to pick up a half, as the match slipped out of their grasp at 5-1.

To compound their misery, Thame turned up the heat in the final round with all three pairs winning.

Steve Bell and Simon Langley were their top pair, winning all six sets and dropping just seven games in the process.

Richard Bradley and Chris Duffy, along with Nigel King and Chris Russell, completed Thame's impressive triumph.

Witney were another team to excel, recording a 6.5-2.5 victory over Abingdon, despite trailing 2-1 after the first round.

Chris Hampton and Dave Hillyard dropped only half a rubber at first pair, with Mark Adams and Bruce Jobson equally as impressive at second.

Pete Dryett and Alex Wingett were the only Abingdon winners.

In Division 2, North Oxford C had to win two of their final three rubbers to beat Woodstock B 5-4.

North Oxford led 2-1 after the first round, but Woodstock fought back to level matters at 3-3.

And it was the dramatic victory for Tom Marshall and John Efthimton against opposite numbers Anumod Gujral and Paul Casey that sealed North's victory.

The second pair held their nerve to win a first-set tie-break, before edging home 6-4 in the next set.
