Team JLR driver James Walker claimed victory in both of the HarrierZeuros UK Formula Ford series Scholarship Class races at Donington Park, finishing fifth overall in each race.

He also managed to set the fastest lap and holds the record for the fastest lap in a Scholarship class car around the circuit.

Walker has now taken the championship lead from Stephen Jelley and built a strong 35-point lead going into the final two rounds.

Walker, 20, of Oxford, who has been offered a race seat with Formula 3 team Hitech Racing for 2004, started seventh on the grid on Saturday, ahead of his other class competitors.

A disappointing start pushed Walker back into ninth, but he fought back and, by the chequered flag, had made up four places by overtaking senior class runners.

On Sunday, Walker's Panasonic Batteries-sponsored Formula Ford leapt from its fifth place grid slot to put senior runner, Yuya Sakamoto, under pressure.

Sakamoto stayed composed, though, as Scholarship class rival, Jay Howard, homed in on Walker.

Howard's driving was typically aggressive and, unsurprisingly on lap 3, he made contact with the rear of Walker's car. Howard was forced to retire with broken front suspension, but fortunately Walker continued unharmed.

Walker's cool performance netted him his second Scholarship win of the weekend, finishing closely behind Sakamoto in his Senior class car. Stephen Jelley failed to finish.
