Camilla Parker Bowles described how her family had been affected by osteoporosis as she officially opened an Oxford research centre yesterday to find new treatments for the disease.

The Botnar Research Centre, at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington, brings hospital clinicians and Oxford University scientists together to research the genetic causes of bone and muscle diseases, including arthritis and osteoporosis.
Mrs Parker Bowles, Prince Charles companion, has been president of the National Osteoporosis Society since her mother died from the disease in 1994.
