Thame Utd 2,

Waltham Forest 2

Thame United had to be satisfied with a point as they drew with their Ryman League Division 1 North visitors.

It should have been three, but Thame's player-boss Mark West was guilty of a glaring miss.

Waltham keeper Gavin King had made a great save from Alex Stewart, only for West to balloon the rebound over from five yards.

With Waltham on a three-game winning run, it was no real surprise when they took an early lead through Wayne Brown after Thame failed to clear a corner.

Thame should have levelled within seconds when Tom Goffe held off opposing defenders to square a perfect through ball to John Mitchell whose shot from ten yards was well blocked by King in the Forest goal.

On 40 minutes, Waltham were reduced to ten men when Forest's Warren Ryan was sent off for using foul and abusive language.

Despite the one-man disadvantage, Forest started the second half in good form, and it took a great save from Thame keeper Steve Smith from Dwayne Clarke to keep his side in the game.

On 53 minutes, Thame levelled when Nando Perna's in-swinging corner deceived King before going straight into the Waltham net.

Nine minutes later, Thame were in front. Another Perna corner was knocked back by Tony Joyce and Mitchell headed home from seven yards.

Thame thought they had done enough for a win, only for a routine Forest corner to deceive defender Ben Freeman on the line and allow Paul Salmon to level.

Thame Utd: Smith, Mills (Gascoyne 85), Joyce, Saulsbury, Williams, Freeman, Goffe, Mitchell, Hocking (West 52), Perna, Stewart. Subs not used: Lane, Chowns.
