More than 100 people have been made redundant by one of Thame's biggest employers.

The Elliott group which makes portable cabins is closing its manufacturing plant and offices in Rycote Lane, Thame.

The company has put a gag on employees talking to newspapers -- and no-one at its Peterborough head office was prepared to comment.

All queries are blocked at switchboard level with a message that the management has no comment to make on the situation in Thame.

The Elliott Group took over the Rycote Lane site three years ago.from another portable cabin maker, Rovacabin, which is now at Baynards Green near Oxford.

Elliotts continued manufacturing and distribution from Thame.

It is expected to close down everything within the next two months.

Staff have been given redundancy notices and redundancy payments are being made.

One worker who was prepared to comment but would not give a name said: "This was not too unexpected but it is a major blow.

"We have people here from apprentices to those approaching retirement in office, IT and manufacturing and they will all be without work.

"There are no offers of relocating with the company. No-one is surprised that management won't discuss this with the press -- that's what they're like."
