Professional tournament golf returns to the The Oxfordshire this summer, when the course host a leading event on the European Seniors Tour.

The Mobile Cup, whose last two winners have been Bernard Gallacher and Carl Mason, will be held at the club, near Thame from Friday, June 18 to Sunday, June 20.

Mason, who was also runner-up to Tom Watson in last year's British Seniors Open at Turnberry, has already agreed to defend his title.

The three-day tournament, which will be covered by Sky TV, should attract a host of big names from the past. It will be preceded by a three-day pro-am.

The Oxfordshire, opened in 1993, staged the Benson & Hedges International Open between from 1996-1999, when the winners included Bernhard Langer, Darren Clarke and Colin Montgomerie.

Concern over the Japan economy - The Oxfordshire was financed by a Japanese Bank - was one of the reasons why B&H switched their tournament to The Belfry.

The Oxfordshire is now owned by the Leaderboard Group, whose chairman Paul Gibbons is delighted to be staging the tournament.

"We are very excited about hosting this European Seniors Tour event ," he said.

"The Oxfordshire is a great course and is deserving of a tournament of the standing of the Mobile Cup."

Meanwhile, Gibbons, co-founder of the Auto Trader group, has joined the global expansion of the International Pairs Tournament.

It's the biggest event of its kind, in which amateurs can enter for a fiver at their club, and could end up representing their country in the final at Cardrona Hotel in the Scottish Borders.

The tournament, which until now has taken place in Britain and Ireland, has been expanded to include several more countries, including the United States and Canada.

Clubs wishing to stage an International Pairs qualifier, should apply for an application form from International Pairs, 111 Victory Centre, Somers Road North, Portsmouth, Hants PO1 1 PJ (tel 02392 827000) or email info@int-pairs.com.
