A teenager who falsely accused a man of raping her after having sex with him outside her parents' home has been jailed for six months.

Clare Newson, 19, claimed Andrew Grindle had raped her after they had sex against a wall in Horsham Close, Banbury, less than an hour after meeting at a taxi rank.

Oxford Crown Court heard she told her boyfriend the following day she had been forced into having sex. He informed her parents, who urged her to go to the police.

She went to Banbury police station six days later and told officers she had met Mr Grindle in a taxi queue in the early hours of August 21 and they decided to share a cab home. She said he forced her against a wall outside her parents' home and raped her.

Daniel Fugallo, prosecuting, said: "She claimed all the time it was happening she was telling him to get off."

Pc Christopher Simpson spent four hours taking an 11-page statement from her, which she ended: "I don't want Andy to do this to anyone else. I think he should be punished for what he did."

Mr Grindle was arrested on September 12 and denied the accusation, claiming that Newson had consented to sex. Police tracked down the taxi driver who took Mr Grindle home from Newson's house and spoke to her friend, Gemma Hicks.

Mr Fugallo said: "The taxi driver made it clear that they parted on extremely good terms. When Mr Grindle got into the taxi, she was trying to pull him out playfully and kiss him again."

He said Newson contacted Miss Hicks the day after having sex with Mr Grindle and "described it as a conquest -- anything but rape".

Newson was told about the evidence against her and at first denied lying, but pleaded guilty in February.

Mr Fugallo said Mr Grindle had been threatened and abused because of Newson's lies and had effectively been driven out of Banbury.

Graeme Logan, mitigating, described Newson as a "naive young woman who found herself in an impossible position" after telling her boyfriend she had been raped.

Recorder John Ryder, said: "Thanks to the diligent and efficient efforts of the police, and the availability, honesty and clear recollection of the witnesses, Andrew Grindle's account was confirmed and your account was exposed."

He added: "At no stage at all, have you shown or expressed any concern at all for Andrew Grindle."
