Fox FM's annual Party in the Park concert is to charge an entrance fee and restrict the number of revellers for the first time in its seven-year history.

Tickets for this year's music festival, which will be held at Oxford's South Park on August 1, will cost £6 plus a booking fee, and only 30,000 people will be allowed to attend, compared to 50,000 last year.

Fox FM is to donate part of the money to its Money Pot community fundraising initiative, which distributes thousands to local charities each year.

Today, the radio station announced bands McFly, Jamelia and Deepest Blue will be performing at the event, with Fox FM bringing thousands of pounds worth of video screens to make sure everybody gets a good view.

The admission fee was applied after the Oxfordshire Safety Advisory Group -- made up of the emergency services and councils -- said crowd numbers should be limited for safety reasons.

Fox said part of the money would pay for a fence around the concert site.

Marketing controller Alice More O'Ferrall said: "We would rather not have to charge, but we have to consider safety risks.

"Tickets to see acts like the ones we have lined up normally cost £20, so we think the price is extremely reasonable."
