Some people have very short memories.

Thirty years ago, frequent strikes and disputes meant that Cowley car workers were often lucky to get a full week's work and a full week's pay.

Now some BMW workers are apparently critical that they are having to work longer hours to meet demand for the Mini.

How workers in the 1970s would have envied them!

The Mini has been an outstanding success for everyone. It has kept the city as a major car manufacturing base, when earlier the future looked grim.

The landmark the plant reaches today, with the 500,000th Mini rolling off the production line, should be a moment to celebrate, not to complain.

Workers should thank their lucky stars that everything is going so well.
