Sir - We are urged to use economy bulbs, turn off unwanted lights, and fill an electric kettle with only the amount of water required.
We are told that by saving electricity, we are helping the environment. Power stations will burn less fossil fuel and this will reduce gases filling the air.
I cannot help think I am wasting my time. Take Blackpool Illuminations, with all their electricity consumption, then the illuminated buildings and monuments in Oxford.
Do the people who are persuading us to use less electricity really think it will make a difference by plugging in an economy bulb or half filling a kettle?
I would like to be convinced that my reduction in energy consumption is helping the environment.
