Sir -- I have been told by Cherwell District Council that my brown wheelie bin will not be emptied because it contained waste which cannot be composted.
My crime? Putting carrot tops and peelings in the bin! The carrots were grown in the garden.
The explanation given to me when I telephoned was "because of foot and mouth disease".
While I appreciate that some items are unacceptable, carrot tops and peelings seem a bit unreasonable to be so classed.
Perhaps the powers-that-be should be informed that foot and mouth disease usually starts with rotten meat.
To be fair, they did send a large lorry around the next day to collect the rubbish, so I presume I was forgiven for my sins!
