Giverny Porter, the six-handicapper from Chipping Norton, has won her way through to the final of the Izzo National Club Champions Clup which takes place at The Belfry on September 26.

Porter, who is still a junior, qualified for this handicap competition by winning both the scratch and nett titles in last year's Chipping Norton club championship.

She was defeated by Tadmarton's Sam Round in the first round of the Scratch knock-out competition, but was still eligible for the handicap matchplay section.

Porter, who won a golf scholarship to Millfield School, won her way through eight rounds in the south east to reach the final.

Round was knocked out of the Izzo scratch section in the last round before the final.

NICK Craigen, from the host club, won the handicap prize in Frilford Heath's rain-affected Junior Open.

The morning round on the Blue course had provided joint leaders, Chris Tellett (3) from Woburn and Sam Bourgein (4) from Frilford Heath on a two over par total of 74.

Brian Browning (1) from Maxstoke Park was in third place on 75, closely followed by Martin Woodbridge (5) from Frilford Heath on 76.

A magnificent round of 76 by 11-handicapper Craigen from the host club left him in joint fourth place in the main competition, but a clear leader in the nett competition on 65.

The afternoon round was played on the Green course, but the weather gradually closed in and play was abandoned.

The competition was therefore decided on the result of the morning round and Tellett was declared the winner on countback, over Bourgein.

This a fitting result as Tellett was standing at three under par for the afternoon round when play was halted.

The nett prize went to Craigen for his superb round on the Blue course.

The prizes were presented by Neil Parsons, regional director of Buildbase, who sponsored the event.
