A woman from Abingdon and her sister, who lost their mother to breast cancer, are preparing to take a walk on the 'wild side' covering 50 miles of remote terrain in Brazil in aid of cancer research.

Louise Bennett Louise Bennett, from Virginia Way, sister Sally Harrison from Yeovil, and 60 other walkers fly to Brazil today to take part in the Brazilian Wilderness Trek 2004. Louise and Sally will be trekking for six days along tracks barely walked by locals or Westerners.

Mrs Bennett, 35, who works for the NHS, said: "It is our way of saying thank you for the excellent care mum received during her illness."

"The money raised will help to support Breast Cancer Care in the vital part they play in helping those affected by the disease. The trek will be quite a challenge but we are looking forward to it."

Louise and Sally, 37, have been in training, walking up to ten miles a week along the roads and country paths around their homes.

To enter the Brazilian challenge the pair have had to find £250 each and raise a minimum of £2,500 each in sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues.
