A cracking start set up Oxford City Stars' 14-8 success over Haringey Greyhounds in their English National League South clash at Oxpens.

Stars raced into a 4-1 lead in the first period and never relinquished control.

Oxford scored first with a Dan Prachar effort on a powerplay, but moments later Haringey levelled through Brian Clark.

The home side then started to dominate, and further goals soon followed from Prachar, Grant Bailey and man-of-the-match Derek Flint.

Stars were knocked back at the start of the second period when Haringey scored two quick goals through Dave Richards and Andrzej Maslak.

But Oxford came right back with a run of five unanswered goals, starting with a Paul Crockett shot that ricocheted in off Marlon Williams.

This was followed by scores from Flint and Williams plus solo efforts from Alan Green and defenceman Adam Andrews, who beat several Greyhounds players before finishing sweetly

Haringey notched the last goal of the session when Craig Metcalf forced home a shot from a narrow angle.

Oxford started the third period with two quick powerplay goals. Darren Elliott, on his return from a broken foot, opened his account and within a minute Green had scored his second.

Wojciech Milan pulled one back for Haringey, but Flint immediately responded with his hat-trick goal - Oxford's twelfth.

Haringey sparked into life with another goal for Milan and a second for Maslak.

Oxford responded with Elliott scoring from a Prachar pass, while Green completed his hat-trick with help from Flint and Carr.
