Police are testing pocket-size computers designed to give officers more time on the beat.

The technology allows officers to access vital information on the move -- saving time.

PC Simon Feist approves of the move Until now they had to radio in for the information.

The trial follows a report earlier this year, which revealed that police spent just over half their time on 'front line' work; the rest is spent doing administrative work.

Testing the gadget is Pc Simon Feist, of Oxford police. He said: "Without a doubt this is the best bit of kit that I have used in 12 years with the police service."

The computer, which also works as a mobile phone and a camera, allows police to access the voters' register, and Police National Computer (PNC). They can also respond to e-mails.
